Do they really think this will stop prostitution?

Craigslist has got to be beyond dense. They are changing their "erotic" section to an "adult" section. I get the thought. After the whole assault and murder thing was linked to them they are soooo out to cover their butts. Do they not think people will still lie about ages or intentions. This is going to do nothing but make this a craftier trade. Sure "legal adult service providers" will use the new and improved service but the illegal will find a way around and monitoring. Just like a gun ban only hurts legal gun owners all this does is provide a hiccup for the men and women trolling for a quick buck for that drug fix who really care less about rules and regulations. Prostitution is going to happen. Sex is a commodity in pretty much every society and little bumps in that road will not deter those desperate enough to sell themselves illegally. There needs to be legislation in place that really addresses this issue not lawmakers expecting companies to police it for them.

  1. This was a total reaction to the whole Craigslist killer thing. I think they are also going to review all the ads also. This will not stop prostitution but will probably slow it down it on craigslist.

  2. Even reviewing the ads won't stop a thing. When you don't actually check for legitimacy and business licenses anyone can fake decent credentials.

  3. Plus I doubt they have the staff to sit and read these ads all day.

  4. Lila, You are right. Craigslist needed to do something to avoid serious civil liability if anything happened again.

  5. I think they have two reasons to make the changes. The first is "due diligence" - that they took reasonable steps to keep from openly participating again, as a legal defense. And second, they want the appearance of not participating in prostitution for their visitors.

  6. I never have understood the big furor in the U.S. over this issue. In just about every other country I've been in, and I've been in a good many, nobody really gives a damn. They have more important things to worry about. I think we do, too. But hey, I live in a county where stores can't sell beer or wine.

  7. If they would just legalize prostitution, give them a union, enforce med checks and jump the left over illegals I think the US would do better with the issue. Germany has had it legal for ages. As I said sex is a commodity, treat it as such and things would be better I think.

  8. It's a control issue, one of those "you have to live by MY morals" not your own.

We love comments! We are happy to answer questions, join in debate and conversation, or just say hi. All we ask is for respect. Respect us and others. Keep it civil. Obviously we aren't afraid of cussing but we don't like anyone degraded or invalidated.

We also know we make mistakes. Feel free to call us out. You can't improve things that need it if you aren't aware of it.

If you have an opinion share it but know if it is going to cause hurt to someone we care about we will not approve it.

Most of all have fun!!
